WORLD CUP: Di Maria pushes Argentina through

WorldCup2014

ROUND OF 16

ARGENTINA 1-0 SWITZERLAND

TUESDAY 1ST JULY – SAO PAULO

Not quite a vintage display for Argentina, but they are through to play Belgium with a 1-0 win over Switzerland. This was their chance to show that Argentina is more than Lionel Messi. Out of this match came the realization to many American’s watching the sport for the first time that not every match is fun, or exciting. Welcome to the sport American’s we will always be there for you. And yes Lionel Messi is as good as you all think, and as tiny.

Most of the match was played as a back and forth match. This was athe type of match that many people who put money on the match would have predicted a high scoring match. There was so much talent on display during the match, of course most of it was on the Argentina team. It was asked on twitter during the match, how would the Argentina team do without Lionel Messi? Well, have DiMaria, Higuan, and Aguero as your forward line, with Fernando Gago, and Javier Masherno in the midfield. Enough to win the World Cup.

Angel Di Maria took a wonderful pass from Messi and put hte ball past the Switzerland goalkeeper, in the dying moments of the game. It was a beautiful break-a-way that true students of the game would really love. The type of flow is what created the goal scoring opportunity, and the World Wide fear of Lionel Messi made the defenders switch to him. See new fans, passing is cool! Now Argentina gets to play a Belgium team that many people have thought who could win the World Cup. Ah, normal gameday for Argentina.
