Only three games took place this week in the league. This was due to the semi-finals of the league cup and Premiership duty will be put on hold next week due to the return of the Scottish Cup.
League leaders Celtic recorded their 21st win in 24 games putting an out-of-form St Mirren side to the sword at Parkhead as they moved 21 points head of the second-placed Aberdeen. The win also gave the table toppers their 14th consecutive win. Commons got the only goal of the game in the 18th minute. The Englishman collected a pass from Izaguirre before leaving Jim Goodwin standing, before putting his effort beyond Marian Kello. In this one-sided affair, Stokes went close and then after some good footwork by Commons – Scott Brown missed the target. St Mirren’s only effort of note was when new signing Josh Magennis warmed the palms of Forster with a tame effort. Forest and Stokes came close towards the end but the scoreline remained 1-0.
Ross County’s attempts to avoid the relegation play-off remained the same as they threw away a two-goal lead in the second half against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park. The visitors had the lead on the half-hour mark. After a free-flowing move, Kiss found Arquin and he in turn calmly slotted the ball home from just inside the box. Five minutes later County were two in front. Brian McLean’s effort was steered home via Songo’o to the delight of the travelling fans. Just two minutes into the second half Killie had a corner, it was swung in and appeared to hit Kris Boyd on the hand, but the deadly hitman turned and slammed the ball past Fraser to halve the scoreline. Killie had chances through Muirhead and Alexi Eremenko, before County’s Kiss received his second yellow and his marching orders as a result. Heading into injury time, Kille got their equaliser. It was Boyd yet again who planted a header past Fraser to rescue a 2-2 draw.
Partick Thistle and Dundee United played out a 1-1 at Firhill. Leaving Thistle winless at home after 25 games, and in eleventh fighting to avoid the relegation play-off spot. Dundee United on the other hand are winless in seven games, despite that they are well in the hunt to finish comfortably in a top-six place. Farid El Alagui scored his first goal for United when he tapped in from close range after a fantastic solo run from left-back Andrew Robertson. Before the goal, United had a legitimate appeal for a penalty turned down, as Jordan McMillan appeared to block Stuart Armstrong when the midfielder was in the area. Both sides had their chances. With 15 minutes left, Fraser grabbed his side a point with a low shot into the bottom corner with the aid of a deflection.
