FIRST ROUND – FIRST LEG

Week one of the 2013 Copa Sudamericana saw 32 teams take part in the first round of the competition. This week’s matches saw wins for Atletico Nacional (Colombia), Colo Colo (Chile), Deportivo Pasto (Colombia), Emelec (Ecuador), Itagui (Colombia), La Equidad (Colombia), LDU Loja (Ecuador), Libertad (Paraguay), Real Potosi (Bolivia), and River Plate (Uruguay).

It finished 2-2 this week in the match between Mineros de Guayana (Venezuela) and Barcelona (Ecuador). Mineros went 1-0 up on 22 minutes through a goal from Venezuelan international Angel Chourio. Barcelona got an equalising goal on 43 minutes through Ecuadorian international Michael Arroyo. On 64 minutes Mineros went 2-1 up through a goal from Venezuelan midfielder Edgar Jimenez. On 80 minutes Barcelona got their second goal of the match, through Ecuadorian midfielder Luis Caicedo.

It ended 1-1 in Chile between Universidad Catolica (Chile) and Cerro Porteno (Paraguay). Cerro Porteno went 1-0 in the first half through a goal from Uruguayan defender Mathias Corujo. In the second half Universidad Catolica got an equaliser through Chilean defender Cristian Alvarez. It finished 0-0 this week in the matches between Nacional (Paraguay) and The Strongest (Bolivia), Independiente (Ecuador) and Deportivo Anzoategui (Venezuela), Cobreloa (Chile) and Penarol (Uruguay); and Guarani (Paraguay) and Oriente Petrolero (Bolivia).

This week’s matches in the Copa Sudamericana saw all four Colombian clubs win their respective matches. Atletico Nacional (above) won 1-0 away at Inti Gas (Peru), Itagui won 3-0 at home against Juan Aurich (Peru), La Equidad won 1-0 away at Trujillanos (Venezuela); and Deportivo Pasto won 3-0 at home against Melgar (Peru). All four Colombian clubs did not concede a goal in their respective matches in the competition this week.

Another feature of this week’s matches was that five players were sent off. The five players that were sent off were Diego Reynoso (Cobreloa), Jesus Alvarez (Deportivo Lara), Jimmy Bermudez (LDU Loja), Julio Moreyra (Blooming), and Victor Balta (Melgar).
